How to get through winter 2023?

Posted on December 16, 2022

Winter is already here with temperatures dropping and days getting shorter and shorter. Tempted to turn on the heat and turn on all the lights? Complicated given the context of the energy crisis, so what is the best compromise for our comfort and control of energy consumption?

“Getting through the winter” is the main emergency of the energy sobriety plan. To avoid power cuts this winter, the government is calling for everyone to mobilize: large companies as well as the various public service union federations are required to be exemplary.

What to do on my scale?

Energy sobriety is everyone's business and everyone has the power to act no matter what level. Every gesture counts . Better management of the operation of your buildings allows a rapid reduction of 10% in energy consumption. Actions take place at several levels. The main consumption items are heating, lighting, air conditioning and processes (computer, printers, elevators, etc.)

Sobre Energie suggests that you adopt these simple but meaningful actions to get through the winter of 2023 and beyond :

First, actions on heating. Heating is the most energy-intensive item. It constitutes 50% of the energy bill . It is then necessary:

  • Adapt the heating temperature : depending on the type of your building and your occupant, the heating temperature must be constant according to your set temperature.

The importance of measuring and tracking your energy data

The Sobre Energie energy monitoring platform allows, thanks to data collected by sensors , to inform you according to the time step of your choice (day, hour, 10 min) the temperature of a room. This information allows you to better control your temperature and to be alerted in the event of a deviation . …

Bonus: lowering the heating by 1°C allows you to save 7% in kWh on your energy bill .

  • Raise awareness about not using auxiliary heating equipment
  • Turn off the heating when the windows are open
  • Do not clutter the heating terminals

Lighting may be an underestimated item in energy consumption, yet 20% of consumption is attributed to it.

  • Turn off the light when it is not needed (unoccupied room, sufficient natural lighting, exterior lighting during closing times or at night)
  • Install LED bulbs that consume less

Other uses to adopt

  • Shift certain uses such as charging the computer or phone outside peak periods when the network is in high demand (8 a.m.-1 p.m. and after 6 p.m.)
  • Download the EcoWatt app

The EcoWatt application developed by the Electric Transport Network (RTE) reports the real-time consumption level of the French. By having this knowledge, you could adapt your consumption at 3 levels:

  • Green: normal consumption
  • Orange: Electrical system strained. Eco-friendly gestures are welcome
  • Red: Very tense electrical system. Cuts are inevitable if consumption is not immediately reduced.

The EcoWatt alert is directly visible on our platform, Sobre Energie supports RTE's approach to more responsible consumption.

Our platform contains a catalog of 400 sobriety actions that you can implement in your building according to your needs and allows you to monitor the impact on your energy consumption of these actions that you have chosen. For more information, contact our experts.
