What are the roles of IoT sensors?

Posted on April 12, 2023

Buildings in France represent 44% of energy consumption. To reduce this impact, the use of technology, such as IoT sensors, is an asset.

What is an IoT sensor?

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an infrastructure allowing objects called sensors to be interconnected via wireless communication networks to data collection, hosting and processing platforms. Like our SAAS software DATAMARC NEO.

The data thus produced is used to provide a service to building managers by helping them optimize their consumption.

What are the roles of sensors ?

At Sobre Energie, we offer to equip your buildings with these connected room sensors. They make it possible to retrieve a lot of data in real time:

  • Temperature
  • Brightness
  • Presence
  • Hygrometry

The interest is twofold:

  • First identify consumption anomalies in one of your buildings or an area of the building. For example, if a floor remains lit during an unoccupied period, the connected sensors alert you to these malfunctions, via the my monitoring module on our SAAS Data-MARC software. Our energy managers can then estimate with you the potential energy savings by remedying this.
  • Then, these sensors are also used to check that the sobriety actions implemented by your teams are properly followed: so if you have decided as part of your sobriety plan to set the heating setpoint temperature at 19°C, the Sensors tell you if the temperature in an area is above or below the set recommendation.

How to improve the energy performance of a building?

Did you know? More than 50% of a building's total electricity consumption occurs during unoccupied periods.

Even in new buildings. Air conditioning or lighting continue to work at night or on weekends when the building is empty!

This is the result of a study by Cerema and Ademe in 2021 on BBC tertiary buildings (Low Consumption Building).

Using connected sensors and energy management software such as DATAMARC NEO makes it possible to detect and correct this excess energy consumption. And therefore to improve the energy performance of a building by making it more economical in these uses.
