At the heart of energy data

Posted on April 15, 2021

A data expert at Sobre Energie deciphers the challenges of data in the energy management of tertiary buildings.

What are we talking about when we talk about energy data?

“This is multiple and strategic data at the crossroads of buildings (m2), energy (kWh) and digital engineering.

Their source? A complex ecosystem of players: energy distributors (Enedis) and suppliers (such as EDF, Engie, Direct Energie, etc.), building managers, subcontractors and maintainers, IOT sensors, weather data.

Sobre Energie will thus operate in 2021 on its digital platform for its customers:

  • 60 Million distributor data (real-time collection of kWh consumed)
  • 600,000 invoices
  • 50 Million data from our ambient sensors (brightness, temperature, humidity, presence)
  • 3 Million climate data (unified degree days) depending on the location of buildings
  • heritage data of buildings (typology, m2, intensity of use). »

“Measuring is not enough. You have to know how to use this data. »

What is the challenge of data management?

“Know how to collect and then use these millions of data: by making them reliable, regular (no data gaps depending on the month or season) and homogeneous (same unit or reference period).

This then offers a double vision:

-an overview of the consumption of your buildings. To know how much you consume and how?

-a detailed photograph to highlight the most energy-intensive and therefore priority buildings. You can also compare a particular building with a similar building in the rest of the park.

Using well-used data, data managers can establish scenarios. This helps our customers know where and how to act to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. This will depend on the type of building, its energy label, budgets and payback time.

These scenarios are instantly visible on our digital platform. »

What role does data play for the tertiary decree?

“A crucial role. All the data used on our platform offers dynamic monitoring of consumption month after month, by type of fluid. We obtain a summary sheet per site.

An essential energy management tool, which constitutes the basic foundation of the tertiary decree : to commit to the trajectory of -40% in energy consumption by 2030, you must first establish your reference year on the platform. 'Ademe “Operate”.

It is the role of Sobre Energie's data managers to support you in this process, based on the profile and consumption of your fleet.

And then, all the data helps to build generic and specific scenarios and action plans. They make it possible to move forward on the path to the tertiary decree by acting on the uses of the building:

  • setting set temperature
  • installation of a GTB (technical building management)
  • replacing a boiler with a heat pump

The issue? Achieve the set objectives:

  1. In relative value:
  •  -40% final energy consumption by 2030
  • -50% by 2040
  • -60% by 2050

2. In absolute value: the objective is then determined according to the category of activity (offices, educational establishments, health establishments, hotels and restaurants, etc.). This parameter must be modulated according to the geographical location and intensity of use indicators (e.g. hourly range, building occupancy rate).

Thus the objective will be different between a standard office building located in the Var and another open space office building in the Ardennes. »
