Sustainably cooling commercial buildings

Posted on August 26, 2025

Since August 8, 2025, the ADAPT-BATI CONFORT program, funded by Energy Savings Certificates (CEE), has been launched to promote the sustainable cooling of commercial buildings. With a budget of 9 million euros, this program funds projects that integrate concrete solutions to improve summer comfort in different types of buildings: schools, offices, healthcare facilities, and municipal buildings.

A new financial lever to accelerate projects

For schools, the demand is particularly strong: communities are facing a growing injunction to act on summer comfort, in a context of increasingly frequent heat waves.*

What cooling solutions are available for commercial buildings?

The Plus fraîche ma ville platform lists a series of technical and operational solutions that can be implemented to limit the effects of summer overheating. Here is a non-exhaustive selection of the main options available:

Sobre Énergie's expertise: Dynamic Thermal Simulation (DTS)

Identifying solutions is a first step. But to ensure their relevance and their real impact on summer comfort and energy consumption, it is essential to have accurate modeling tools.

This is where Sobre Énergie's expertise comes in:

- We carry out around 300 energy audits each year, including Dynamic Thermal Simulations (DTS).

- These simulations make it possible to test the real impact of solutions such as natural ventilation, green facades or geocooling, in real climatic conditions.

- They provide decision-makers with objective decision-making support, by integrating summer comfort, energy consumption and the investment budget.

The priority emergency: school and university buildings

While all commercial buildings are affected by climate change adaptation, schools, universities, and colleges are now a top priority. Heat waves directly affect learning conditions and raise strong social and regulatory expectations.

With this in mind, Sobre Énergie systematically integrates summer comfort and cooling into its audits for schools and universities. Our approaches use Dynamic Thermal Simulation to assess the most appropriate solutions for each building configuration.

Furthermore, Sobre is a partner of the EDURENOV program of the Caisse des Dépôts, which supports energy renovation and summer comfort in school buildings.

In summary

- The ADAPT-BATI CONFORT (CEE) program opens a financing window (€9 million) for refreshment projects.

- There are many technical solutions, ranging from natural ventilation to vegetation and geocooling.

- The urgency is particularly strong in school and university buildings, where summer comfort needs are critical.

- Sobre Énergie, thanks to its expertise in Dynamic Thermal Simulations and its experience in school audits, supports communities in choosing and sizing the most suitable solutions.
