How does CSR promote business performance?

Posted on November 3, 2021

It's good for the planet and it's good for my business. Translate: CSR policies improve the overall performance of companies.

Today CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility, is increasingly widespread in organizations:

  • reduce energy consumption in its offices
  • encourage soft mobility for its employees
  • raise awareness of the impact of global warming
  • promote diversity
  • guarantee equal pay for women and men

What concrete impact?

These CSR policies have a positive effect on the lives of employees and therefore on their motivation and productivity. A better working atmosphere which translates into better overall performance . As shown in a study by France Stratégie , the general commission for strategy and foresight is attached to the Prime Minister's office.

The study is based on the analysis of 8,500 companies, SMEs and large companies. The results are very telling: 13% more performance with a CSR policy

“In total, the performance gap between companies that introduce CSR practices and those that do not is on average 13%. This performance gap may be due either to a direct effect of the implementation of CSR practices, or to an indirect effect linked to greater organizational efficiency or to the increased attractiveness of these companies to more motivated and therefore more productive employees. »

This figure varies depending on the dimensions of performance observed:

  • 5% gain on the “customer relationship” dimension
  • + 8% for environmental certification
  • 20% improvement in human resources

CSR and Tertiary Decree

CSR acts on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. At a time of COP 26 and the climate emergency, environmental impact is a key lever of action for companies. Especially in the building sector : it represents 40% of French final energy consumption and nearly 20% of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions.

To find out more, our analysis of the latest IPCC report

Complying with the Tertiary Decree means improving the energy performance of tertiary buildings and therefore reducing their environmental impact. And thus, respond to a triple challenge:

  • regulatory compliance
  • environmental exemplary
  • control your energy bill

Thus, our client Groupe la Poste plans to reduce the energy and carbon footprint of its 10,000 buildings, i.e. 15% energy savings in kWh and 10% reduction in GHG emissions. The equivalent of 1000 trips around the Earth by car per year.

CSR and commitment

Succeeding in the energy transition of a real estate portfolio requires implementing a CSR policy involving organizational changes within the company:

  • taking into account new objectives
  • definition of thematic references
  • establishment of new consumption habits

But often, the implementation of these changes involves resistance from certain employees through:

  • lack of understanding of the issues
  • lack of visibility
  • lack of interest
  • non-alignment of interests

To successfully implement such a CSR policy , these obstacles must therefore be removed to facilitate employee engagement in the process . This requires suitable tools:

- fun eco-friendly actions campaign

-newsletters

-energy efficiency awareness workshops

-challenges
